Pianovia Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 24, 2026
Overview
Cairn Studio (“we”, “us”) operates Pianovia, an iPad piano practice coach. Pianovia does not require an account. Practice data stays on your iPad. There is no Cairn Studio cloud sync in this version.

Information on your device
- Practice data — scores you import or keep from the bundled library, Apple Pencil (or finger) annotations, practice history, heatmaps, wrong-bar lists, and settings you choose.
- MIDI — note events from a USB or Bluetooth MIDI keyboard are processed on your iPad to follow the score. We do not upload MIDI streams to our servers.
- Bluetooth — iPadOS uses Bluetooth to pair a wireless MIDI keyboard. We do not collect Bluetooth identifiers on Cairn Studio servers.
- Microphone — the app includes a microphone permission string for a possible future follow-along mode. This version is MIDI-first and does not turn the microphone on automatically or upload audio.
- Files — importing MusicXML, MXL, or MIDI uses the system file picker. Chosen files are copied into the app’s on-device library.
- Support messages — if you send Settings → Support Request, we receive the email address and message you submit so we can reply. We do not collect that unless you send it.
How we use information
On-device data is used only to run practice, history, and related features on your iPad. Support email is used only to respond to your request. We do not sell personal information. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics in Pianovia.
Where data is stored
- On this iPad — scores, annotations, and history are stored locally.
- Device backups — if you back up the iPad (for example iCloud Backup), the operating system may include Pianovia’s local data in that backup. That backup is controlled by Apple and your Apple ID, not by a Cairn Studio cloud account.
- This policy page — hosted on GitHub Pages so App Store Connect and the in-app Privacy screen can link to a public URL. Visiting the page is not required to use the app.
Third-party services
Pianovia does not send practice data to Firebase or other analytics vendors. Apple provides MIDI, Bluetooth, Mail, and backup on the device. If you email support, your message is delivered through your mail provider to support@cairn-studio.com.
Retention and deletion
There is no Pianovia cloud account to delete. Uninstalling the app removes its local data from the iPad. You can also delete individual scores or history inside the app. Device backups you already made may still contain older copies until you delete those backups.
Children’s privacy
Pianovia is rated for a general audience on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 on Cairn Studio servers. Practice data remains on the device.
Changes
We may update this policy when product behavior changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do.
